The Reason this DNC is Hiding their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

The action by the Democratic National Committee to block the publication of its own autopsy report on the last presidential race is shocking yet to be expected. Opposed to frank assessments, the party's leadership apparatus often functions more like a publicity machine than an electoral entity committed to cultivating local power to secure victories.

A Culture of Conformity

Hesitant to challenge the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has stayed under the influence of the previous administration throughout 2025. Publishing an official autopsy might have shown whether the leadership are interested to encourage open debate about the strategic failures which allowed the former president to win re-election. However, the leadership is moving forward as if there are no lessons to be learned from the stunning loss of 2024.

Our guiding principle: will this lead to victory? If not, it becomes a sideline issue from what truly matters," a justification that has been offered for withholding the report.

Critical Problems an Autopsy Could Have Examined

Any valuable post-mortem of substance would not dodge key points of failure. Among them are:

  • Electoral Disengagement: Losing among millions of voters that backed the Democratic ticket during the previous election proved pivotal during the tight 2024 election.
  • The Choice to Seek Re-election: The unwavering choice of the incumbent to run again, coupled with an extremely delayed exit, has been criticized as robbing Democratic voters the chance for open primaries.
  • Abandoning Core Democratic Voters: While facing inflation, the electoral effort reportedly ceding to corporate donors' interests while failing to confront the role of big business.
  • The Gaza Impact: An unwillingness to adjust an approach concerning the situation in Gaza reportedly led to losing many voters, particularly with young people, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • A Decline in Youth Backing: Polling data shows a huge drop-off in Democratic support from the youth electorate.

A Pattern Avoiding Accountability

This refusal is consistent with a longstanding habit of evading uncomfortable facts. It recalls a situation in which nearly all elected Democrat in Congress went along with a sitting president's decision for seeking another term until a poor televised debate led to a change.

Meanwhile, overwhelming numbers within the party's base had been continually telling researchers of their opposition to that candidate to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Questions

A substantive report would also investigate questions about campaign spending, including the amounts flowed to insider consultants and ad buyers over the course of an electoral effort that managed to spend a staggering amount during the general election.

The Larger Problem

Fundamentally, the blockage regarding the analysis is symptomatic of an allegiance to the established hierarchy that oversaw a losing electoral effort. The signal to ordinary supporters – including countless small donors – is that they do not be trusted to understand the lessons the insiders have learned from an analysis compiled from conversations with insiders.

A political entity unable to honestly assess its mistakes will struggle to escape the cycle which was so helpful to the winning candidate.
